Here’s another Marriott Bonvoy stay bonus we came across for stays here in Canada. This one covers three hotels around the airport in Toronto. You can earn 2,500 bonus points per night for up to two nights at the Element Toronto Airport, Four Points by Sheraton Toronto Airport or The Westin Toronto Airport. We checked out the rates for this offer and it prices the same as the non-member best flexible rate. That means the Member Rate is slightly cheaper than the bonus points rate but the extra points more than make up for that small difference:
In this case the bonus points rate is $3 more than the Member Rate but with a valuation of 1 cent per points those 2,500 points are worth $25 so it is more than worth it to pay the extra $3!
The timing of this new bonus points offer couldn’t have been better if you have an American Express card and pay for your stay with an Amex card. The reason why is that Amex has two Amex offers in place where you can earn statement credits. The first, Discover Ontario provides a $50 statement credit if you spend $200 at hotels in Ontario and the second offer provides a $50 statement credit when you spend $200 or a $100 credit when you spend $350 (depends on which card you have) at Marriott Hotels in Canada. We detail both of these offers in this post here. So if we take the above example and book two nights at the Element Toronto Airport you’d be looking at a total spend of $350.20 ($175.20 per night including all fees and taxes). So if you used the Platinum Card here’s how the offer would work out:
The Platinum Card has the spend $350 receive a $100 credit Marriott Bonvoy offer and it has the general Discover Ontario offer of spend $250 receive a $50 credit.
That means your spend of $350.20 would net you $150 in statement credits meaning you only end up paying $200.20. Then you would earn 2 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent, so 700 points worth no less than $7 and then you have your Marriott Bonvoy earn for the stay – the base earn rate is 5 points per US$ spend so we’ll put that 550 points per night or 1,100 total but then you also get the 5,000 bonus points for a total of 6,100 points. We value Marriott Bonvoy points at 1 cent C$ each so that’s $61 in points. This does not take into account any elite bonus points either which range from 10 to 75%. All told you end up with a total rebate of $218! That’s a pretty good deal on a $350 stay!
