We have now learned what Marriott Bonvoy category the Muir, an Autograph Collection Hotel Halifax will be. As I had predicted the hotel is a Category 6 hotel which unfortunately puts it out of reach for the anniversary free night awarded on the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card – that is unless there is an Off Peak Pointsavers award available in which case you could use it for one night. We have also learned the opening of this hotel has now been pushed back to November of this year from the projected summer opening. Learn more about this and other new Marriott Hotels in Canada here.

Catching up on one more piece of news from last week. American Express
is offering a special redemption offer for American Express Prepaid
cards until May 30. Right now you can redeem points at a rate of 100
points per dollar instead of 125 points. This points the redemption
value at 1 cent per point which is equal to Amex’s flexible travel
points option and equates to a 1% to 5% return on your spending
dependent on which American Express card you have. This is a really
decent redemption option if you aren’t looking at using your points for
travel anytime soon.

The Preferred Hotel Group iPrefer program has
extended their points expiry date from June 2021 to December 17, 2021
and also extended current elite members status to June 30, 2022.
