Home Hardware will join the Scene+ program in 2023

Wow, it’s not just AIR MILES who has lost a partner to Scene+. News came out today that former Aeroplan partner Home Hardware is set to join the Scene+ program in 2023! There aren’t a lot of details yet about the partnership other than it launching in summer of 2023 and that Scene+ members will be able to earn and redeem their points at Home Hardware stores.

Latest update (May 8, 2023):

Here are the details on earning and redeeming Scene+ points at Home Hardware

Home Hardware Stores Limited, Canada’s largest Dealer-owned hardware, lumber, building materials, and furniture home improvement retailer, is excited to announce it is joining Scene+, one of Canada’s largest and most flexible loyalty programs. The new partnership, expected to launch in summer 2023, will allow Scene+ members to earn and redeem points at the Canadian retailer’s close to 1,100 Dealer-owned stores nationwide.

The ability to redeem at the stores is the primary difference over the retailer’s previous partnership with Aeroplan which only provided points earning. Now we’ll just have to wait to see what the earn and burn rates will be. Most Scene+ redemptions are coming in at 100 points to $1 (or a multiple of that) so I would guess we’ll see the same with Home Hardware but only time will tell if that will be the actual case.

On earn side, current Scene+ partners offer points on base spending (Cineplex, Dining partners etc.) or on individual items such as the grocery side of things with Sobeys, Safeway, etc. I would hazard a guess there will be a base earn rate as a home improvement store isn’t going to have individual products that will appeal to a large base of customers to offer points. Thus I believe it will be a base earn rate and then possibly bonus points for spending a certain amount in one shop as well as bonuses for individual items.

Years ago Cineplex SCENE said they wanted to become Canada’s next big coalition program and that sure seems to be happening now. I’m curious to see who else may be joining the program in the near future.
