Save 30% on Singapore KrisFlyer award tickets between Vancouver and Singapore

Two years and one month after we last saw them, Singapore Airlines
KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes have returned. These are their monthly
discounted award flight offers that are typically open for booking for
the last two weeks of the month for travel during the following in month
or the case of these new offers the following two months. Typically we only covered them on our global site FrequentFlyerBonuses.com as Singapore Airlines wasn’t flying to Vancouver anymore but now that they are again we’ll cover the promotion right here on Rewards Canada!

If you are not familiar with Spontaneous Escapes
they are similar to Air France KLM’s Promo Rewards or Miles & More’s Mileage Bargains. They are typically a monthly offering of routes where you can redeem less KrisFlyer miles for those select award flights. In most cases with Spontaneous Escapes it is a 30% discount but we have seen it go over 50% a few times.  For this return of the promotion we see a 30% discount on  the amount
miles normally required for select routes in the Singapore Airlines and
SilkAir networks including Economy and Business Class from Vancouver to Singapore and Business Class for the return as well Premium Economy for both direction. These offers must be booked by March 31 for travel between April 1 and May 31 (well for YVR the last day is May 25 for Economy and Business)

Economy and Business Class
Premium Economy

For the Vancouver to Singapore flight (SQ27) you can redeem 26,600 KrisFlyer Miles for Economy Class or 66,500 for Business Class. On the return (SQ28) it is 66,500 miles for Business Class. For Premium Economy it is 47,600 miles each way.

Earning KrisFlyer Miles in Canada

Outside of travel related earning (flights, hotels, car rentals) Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles are relatively easy to come by for Canadians as we do have two good conversion options that are available. You can convert points from HSBC Rewards or Marriott Bonvoy directly to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. This means you can also convert from American Express Membership Rewards cards as those can be converted to Marriott Bonvoy and then onto to Singapore Airlines. This means you can convert approximately 148,000 HSBC Rewards Points to have enough KrisFlyer Miles for a one way business class flight on the Vancouver-Singapore route. For Marriott you would be looking at just under 170,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points for the same routing. This means if you have a card like the American Express Cobalt Card you could get a one way business class flight for around $28,000 in spending.

The HSBC World Elite Mastercard has an up to 100,000 points (45,000 KrisFlyer Miles) welcome offer in place until April 4 and while grabbing this card right now will not get you the points in time to convert to KrisFlyer by the end of the month you can be proactive by getting the current bonus which will be ending on April 4, spend on the card and have those points sit in your HSBC Rewards account (which is what you should do anyways since they have so many redemption options) and then you have them ready to convert to KrisFlyer for a future discounted redemption. The same goes for the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card as it currently has a 65,000 point (26,666 KrisFlyerMiles) welcome bonus offer at the time of posting this.
