New limited time welcome offers The Platinum Card from American Express and American Express Aeroplan cards

The best ever American Express card offers are done and gone now however several of the cards that were part of that amazing promotion do retain higher that normal welcome offers. Those cards are The
Platinum Card®
American Express® Aeroplan®* Card and the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card. Both of the Marriott cards and the AIR MILES Reserve card drop down to their standard bonuses of 50,000 points and 2,400 AIR MILES respectively. So let’s take a look at the cards that do retain elevated welcome bonuses:

The
Platinum Card®

  • Earn up to 80,000 Membership Rewards® points:
  • New Platinum® Cardmembers, earn 65,000 Welcome Bonus points after you charge $6,000 in net purchases to your Card in your first 3 months of Cardmembership. Redeem for a roundtrip flight to a destination in Europe using the Fixed Points Travel Program (towards base fares, up to maximum of $900)
  • Plus, you can also earn 15,000 points when you make a purchase between 14 and 17 months of Cardmembership. Redeem for a short-haul roundtrip flight to one of the popular routes using the Fixed Points Travel Program (towards base fares, up to maximum of $300)

The 100,000 point bonus and 10x points on eats and drinks have been replaced with this 80,000 point offer. This is still 30,000 points higher than the usual offer seen on this card. Once again we do see part of the bonus coming after you spend on the card in months 14-17 of having it and now you only have three months to earn the initial bonus instead of six.

American Express® Aeroplan®* Card,

  • New American Express® Aeroplan®* Cardmembers can earn up to a total of 40,000 welcome bonus Aeroplan points and a bonus Buddy Pass:
  • Earn 10,000 Aeroplan points and a bonus Buddy Pass for an eligible round-trip flight within North America after spending $1,500 in purchases within the first three months of Cardmembership
  • Plus, you can also earn 2,500 Aeroplan points for each monthly billing period in which you spend $500 in purchases on your Card for the first twelve months of Cardmembership. That could add up to 30,000 Aeroplan pointsWith a bonus Buddy Pass, you can bring a friend anywhere Air Canada®* flies in North America. On the second ticket, you only pay the taxes and third-party charges

The 75,000 points seen in the best ever offer has now been replaced with this 40K+Buddy Pass offer which can get you close that 75,000 since you can convert buddy passes to 30,000 Aeroplan points. However the monthly spend bonus is now spread across 12 months instead of 6 months so it will take you a year to get the entire bonus and you don’t get 5x points on eats and drinks.

American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card

  • New American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Cardmembers can earn up to a total of 90,000 welcome bonus Aeroplan points and a bonus Buddy Pass :
  • Earn 30,000 Aeroplan points and a bonus Buddy Pass after spending $3,000 in purchases within the first three months of Cardmembership
  • Plus, you can also earn 5,000 Aeroplan points for each monthly billing period in which you spend $1,000 in purchases on your Card for the first twelve months of Cardmembership. That could add up to 60,000 Aeroplan points
  • With a bonus Buddy Pass, you can bring a friend anywhere Air Canada®* flies in North America. On the second ticket, you only pay the taxes and third-party charges

Much like the other Aeroplan card this one will take 12 months to get the entire bonus. That being said, the card this time has a buddy pass included so this offer technically can hit 120,000 Aeroplan points! That’s still a great offer and is actually better than the last one if you don’t count the 10x points on eats and drinks.

Wrapping it up

Of course we would have loved to see the best ever offers from American Express Canada to be extended but alas that was not the case. It is good to see that they have kept increased welcome offers on a sub-set of those cards and in reality these are still great offers or would be considered great had we not just had those best ever offers. So if you missed out on those previous offers you still have a chance here to get some pretty good deals. If I was to pick one it would be the Aeroplan Reserve Card but you can’t go wrong with any of them.
