The Welcome Bonus
The CIBC Aeroplan® Visa* Card comes with a modest 10,000 point
welcome bonus but that can be expected on the only no annual fee card in the suite of Aeroplan cards. Well, technically speaking there is one more and that is the student version of this exact card.
Basics of the new card
The
earn rates get a little better on this card as it will now earn 1 Aeroplan point per dollar spent for grocery and
gas station purchases as well as Air Canada purchases. All other purchases which all
continue to earn 1 Aeroplan point per $1.50 spent on the card.
Here are some of the new benefits for this card:
- Preferred Pricing – Holders of these cards will receive discounts when redeeming miles for Aeroplan reward flights
- Hotel/Motel Burglary Insurance coverage up to $2,500 per occurrence for
each Cardholder on the Account and eligible family members travelling
with the Cardholder. - Mobile Device Insurance coverage up to $1,000 for eligible mobile
devices in the event of loss, theft, accidental damage, or mechanical
breakdown.
Final thoughts
This
card of is one of two that can be used an entry to Aeroplan if you
don’t qualify for one of the higher end cards offered in the huge suite
of options. The 10,000 points is a mid-level bonus for this type of card
but when you couple it with it being a no annual fee card it’s not a bad option to get into the
points and miles game especially if you are a student.
