Less than an hour after we posted that WestJet may start flights to Tokyo, they have officially announced the flights!
Our new non-stop route from Calgary (the city’s only non-stop flight to Asia) will commence in spring 2023, in addition to two new non-stop routes to Barcelona and Edinburgh. We’ve also increased frequencies from Calgary to some of your favourite European getaways, including London (two flights per day), Paris (daily service), Rome (5 flights per week) and Dublin (5 flights per week).
WestJet will offer new direct flights from Calgary to Tokyo, Barcelona and Edinburgh for the summer 2023 season. Both of the European cities have been served by WestJet before however not from Calgary. The Tokyo flights marks the only flights to Asia from Calgary after Air Canada and Hainan stopped flying Transpacific flights from YYC.
The flights to Tokyo will launch on April 30 and operate 3x weekly with their Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The flights to Barcelona will launch on May 6, 2023 and will be operated with their Boeing 787 three times weekly. Edinburgh will launch on May 17 and will also operate 3x weekly also on the Boeing 787.
All of these routes are available for purchase on the WestJet site as of today (December 5, 2022)
