The Platinum Card sees a new record high offer of up to 70,000 Scene+ points. 50,000 awarded when you spend $3,000 on the card in the first three months of having it and 20,000 more is you spend $10,000 on the card in the first 14 months.

The Gold American Express Card holds it own in the mix with an offer of 45,000 Scene+ point bonus along with having its first year annual fee waived.

The Passport Visa Infinite Card is now available with an up to 40,000 points bonus. Note that 10,000 of that we technically don’t like to call a welcome bonus. The card has an annual 10,000 point bonus when you spend $40,000 on the card annually. The bank marketers like to include that as part of your first year welcome bonus even though it is there whether or not there is bonus or not. Thus we consider this card’s welcome bonus as 30,000 points which you receive after spending a small $1,000 in the first free months.

The basic Red card also sees a record high offer of up to 12,000 Scene+ points. 7,000 awarded when you spend $750 on the card in the first three months of having it and 5,000 more if you spend $5,000 on the card in the first year.

Wrapping it up

Scotiabank is upping the ante once again on their Scene+ cards to attract more customers. I actually believe they are having a tougher go than they thought with their cards now being part of Scene+. It seemed like more people were getting the cards when they were Scotia Rewards and now Scene+ may be scaring off some potential customers. And that is wholly due to the fact that many people don’t realize Scene+ is way more than movies now.

Based on some of the feedback I have received and seeing comments on social media, there is a big portion of the Canadian population who still believe the Scene+ program is only about movies. So why should they get a credit card that think is only for movies. I’ve said a few times before, Scotia and Scene+ have an uphill battle on their hands in educating Canadians as to what Scene+ has become now and to shed the notion of the program only being for movies.

If you are one of those people that are now learning Scene+ is much more than just movies and can see value in the program I would recommend considering one of the cards listed above. The Scene+ portfolio of cards are actually some of the better cards in Canada. The Gold American Express Card is one of the strongest points earners in the entire Canadian market, the Passport Visa Infinite Card is one of the most well rounded travel rewards cards while the Platinum American Express Card is a sleeping giant with lots of travel benefits and strong base earn rates. And all three of the cards I just listed all offer no Foreign Transaction Fees which saves you on average 2.5% on purchases made outside of Canada.
