United Airlines returns to Winnipeg with flights to Chicago & Denver and resumes Quebec City to Chicago

United Airlines continues to add more flights from Canada for the summer 2024 season! It was only a few short weeks ago they announced Halifax to Newark flights as well as Vancouver to Washington D.C. and now they are adding even more. The airline returns to Winnipeg with flights to Chicago and Denver and they will resume service between Quebec City and Chicago.

This route will be operated once daily starting on May 23, 2024 with Skywest Embraer E175 aircraft. Flights are timed for easy connections in Chicago for United’s evening departure bank out to cities across the U.S., Europe and more.

Earning points & miles on these flights

You can choose to credit these flights to United’s own program, MileagePlus, but I would think most Canadians will opt to have these credited to their Air Canada Aeroplan account. You can also choose to credit these flights to any other Star Alliance partner .

United does not have a co-brand credit card in Canada however you can convert Marriott Bonvoy points to MileagePlus so you could use cards like the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card or Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card to pay for these flights and then convert the points. Or you can choose to pay with a card that has a travel accelerator to boost your Aeroplan account like The Platinum Card from American Express or the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card.

Booking these flights with points & miles

As these are United flights, you can use United MileagePlus miles to redeem for these flights. It looks like they start around 15,000 miles one way for Economy Class from Winnipeg to Chicago, 18,100 from Winnipeg to Denver and 15,000 from Quebec City to Chicago (United does have award flights on Air Canada with connections for as low as 16,500 for YWG-DEN and YQB-ORD)

You should also be able to use Aeroplan points for these flights however when I checked Aeroplan on a few dates in late May and throughout June I couldn’t get the direct non-stop United flights from either city to show – only AC connections to AC and UA flights.

Wrapping it up

2024’s huge resurgence of flights between Canada and the U.S. continues with United adding these three routes for the upcoming summer season. These flights are being offered in addition to other routes already announced by United as well as from other airlines like Lynx, WestJet, Air Canada, Delta and American.
