The Air Canada Aeroplan LCBO partnership has been further enhanced with the ability to now redeem Aeroplan points at the till in physical LCBO stores. This follows the launch this past December of being able to redeem points towards their purchases of eligible products and services on the LCBO.com website or via the LCBO mobile app.
- In-store: Scan a physical or digital Aeroplan card at checkout, confirm Aeroplan account ownership with the LCBO representative by presenting a government-issued ID, and redeem in $10 increments.
- Online: Add Aeroplan number to an LCBO profile or enter it at checkout on the LCBO website or app.
With this redemption offer you are receiving 1 cent per point. In the grand scheme of everything loyalty getting 1 cent per point is actually not bad for a non-flight reward and matches the benchmark value of most non-frequent flyer programs.
That being said we value Aeroplan points at a minimum of 1.5 cents per point when redeemed for flights – and that’s a minimum – it can easily go to 2, 3, 4, 5 or more cents per point at which point the LCBO redemption doesn’t look so great.
At least you know it isn’t worse than what you’ll find in other programs and it’s always good to have more reward options at your disposal. If you are someone who won’t collect enough points for a flight, a reward option like this can make sense for you or if you are on the opposite end and collect more points than you know what to do with, then saving some cash with a redemption like this is also a great option.
