Edelweiss to launch non-stop Halifax to Zurich flights in 2025

Swiss carrier Edelweiss will fly to three Canadian cities for the summer 2025 season as they have announced new flights between Halifax and Zurich. These flights are in addition to their current summer seasonal services from Calgary and Vancouver to Zurich.

Halifax to Zurich flights

This route will be operated two times weekly starting on July 3, 2025 and run until October 5, 2024. The flights will be operated with an Airbus A340-300. The aircraft features economy class, premium economy class and business class with lie flat seats.

Here are the flight times (per Aeroroutes)

WK019/LX8019 YHZ1900 – 0625+1ZRH 343 47

Earning points & miles on these flights

If you book these flights with a SWISS Airlines flight number (Edelweiss will not sell tickets on their own website for Canadian departures) you can credit these flights to Miles&More.

“If you are a Miles & More member and wish to collect miles on Edelweiss flights, please book your ticket with our sister company SWISS.”

But I would think most Canadians will opt to have these credited to their Air Canada Aeroplan account as Edelweiss is an Air Canada codeshare partner and you can earn Aeroplan points on Edelweiss flights as long as they have an AC flight number:

Miles&More does not have a co-brand credit card however since you can book these flights on AirCanada.com you can use an Aeroplan co-brand card to pay for these flights – the best one is the American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card which earns 3 points per dollar for purchases made on Air Canada website.

If you don’t book via Air Canada your best bet is to pay with a card that has a travel accelerator like The Platinum Card from American Express or the American Express Gold Rewards Card as you can transfer those points to Aeroplan afterwards.

Booking these flights with points & miles

Edelweiss is not available for redemption with Aeroplan, so your best bet is Miles & More as those can be used for award flights as long as they have a SWISS flight number.

However for most Canadians looking to use points on Edelweiss flights it will come down to using a proprietary credit card program like Amex Membership Rewards or a program like Scene+ when you have one of the Scene+ credit cards where you simply purchase the ticket and then redeem the points against the charge.

Wrapping it up

Love for Halifax from the airlines continues as Edelweiss becomes yet another airline to add the city to their route map. Over the past year Halifax has seen American Airlines, Delta, BermudAir and others add flights from YHZ and now we can add Edelweiss to the mix!
