Air Canada has revealed Palma de Mallorca as the first destination they will be flying to with their new Airbus A321XLR aircraft. The Spanish island will be served from Montreal starting on June 17, 2026 and this will followed by the plane being added on Air Canada’s Montreal to Edinburgh and Toulouse routes.
Details on the Air Canada Airbus A321XLR:
The A321XLR is the first narrow-body in Air Canada’s fleet that will feature lie-flat seats in the Business Class cabin, bringing a wide-body experience on a narrow-body jet. It will accommodate 182 passengers in a configuration of 14 Signature Class seats and 168 Economy Class seats. The A321XLR will also mark the beginning of the next era in Air Canada’s cabin interiors with the introduction of a new design standard for our onboard experience.
Air Canada first announced the addition of the A321XLR to their fleet in March 2022.

Booking this flights with points
The new Montreal – Palma de Mallorca flight falls into Aeroplan’s 0 – 4,000 distance band for award flights from North America across the Atlantic:
Award pricing for Air Canada is fully dynamic so the median ranges are simply a guideline.
For example if you want to redeem points for the inaugural flight, the requirements are much higher than the median ranges!
I checked a few other dates and these are pretty much the going rates right now for this route.
Don’t forget you can also receive preferred award pricing on this route by having an Aeroplan co-brand credit card.
Additional A321XLR routes:
“In addition to launching new service to Mallorca, Air Canada will also transition existing routes to the A321XLR, including year-round flights between Montréal and Toulouse, connecting two vibrant francophone cities, and seasonal flights between Montréal and Edinburgh, resuming service in 2026 with an enhanced product offering. As Air Canada takes delivery of additional A321XLR aircraft, the airline will be adding more exciting routes from Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax, amongst other cities.”
The flights from Montreal to Edinburgh and Toulouse are also open for booking.
Wrapping it up
The Airbus A321XLR is seen as a game changer for worldwide aviation as it allows airlines to open up longer range routes between destinations that normally wouldn’t be able to support a larger widebody aircraft. We see that with the first route announcement from Air Canada with the addition of Palma de Mallorca to their route map. I am really excited to see what other new routes the airline has in store as they progressively add 30 of these Airbus A321XLR planes to their fleet.
