McDonald’s Canada’s changes to the MyMcDonald’s Rewards program officially kicked in today . These changes include more items that you can redeem points for, a couple of point reductions on some rewards which are countered with some of the past best and most popular redemption options increasing in points cost. With the new items added to the rewards program we have a new #1 redemption!

These changes that kicked in on September 16, 2025 affected some of the items that were ranked as The 5 best MyMcDonald’s Rewards redemptions so here we go again, updated the ranking for the second time in the past year! The last update came in October 2024 after McDonald’s lowered their everyday pricing on coffee which knocked the extra large coffee out of the Top 5 (in a good way!)
The 5 best MyMcDonald’s Rewards redemptions as of September 2025
So what are the best redemptions in the program now that we have further changes? Let’s look at the 5 best options now found with MyMcDonald’s Rewards in Canada! (Current as of September 2025)
#1. Medium Caramel or French Vanilla Latte (NEW #1!)
One reward that sees a lower point requirement as of September 16 are medium lattes – and this includes the caramel and French Vanilla flavoured versions! You can redeem 2,000 points for either of these items, both of which run $3.79 before taxes and that higher cost with the low points requirement make them the most valuable rewards in the program.
These options work out to 0.1695 cents per point and since you earn 100 points per $1 spent your return on spending is 16.95% not including what you save on taxes.
#2. Medium Latte or Cappuccino (NEW #2)
One reward that sees a lower point requirement and one of the new rewards added on September 16 tie to take the second spot! You can redeem 2,000 points for a medium latte (used to be 4,000 points) or cappuccino (new reward option) both of which run $3.39 before taxes. These options work out to 0.1695 cents per point and since you earn 100 points per $1 spent your return on spending is 16.95% not including what you save on taxes.
#3. Vanilla or Caramel Iced Coffee
You can redeem 2,000 points for any size of Iced Coffee with Vanilla or Caramel syrup flavour added or for an Iced Coffee with sugar free syrup. If you order a large, it runs $3.29 before taxes. #5. Medium Fries
Large fries used to be #3 on the list until the September 16th changes! Large fries now require 6,000 points which drops them out of the top 5 however you can still redeem 4,000 points for small or medium fries, the latter of which runs $4.39 before taxes. That works out to 0.1098 cents per point and since you earn 100 points per $1 spent your return on spending is 10.98% not including what you save on taxes.
Note on valuation:
The values listed above are based on pricing from Northwest Calgary in September 2025. Prices will vary based on your location (even the two closest to me in NW Calgary price differently!) and you also have to take into account that you are saving on paying the tax as well. Here in Calgary it’s 5% but it can be as high as 15% if you are out in the Maritimes
Boost your return even more with a Points Earning Machine!
You can boost your return on spending at McDonald’s restaurants in Canada by paying for purchases with any points/miles/cash back rewards credit card but your best bet is one of the three points earning machines. All three of these of cards earn 5 points per dollar spent at McDonald’s and those 5 points are the equivalent of a 5% return (or more on the Cobalt and MBNA cards)
- American Express Cobalt Card
- MBNA Rewards World Elite Mastercard
- Scotiabank Gold American Express Card
Wrapping it up
With these latest updates to the MyMcDonald’s Rewards program we see a new #1 best redemption option but also lost large fries and large brewed tea off the list! No matter what though, as we always say, any redemption that you are happy with is a good redemption. So if you aren’t about maximizing value and simply want to get anything off the menu for free, redeem away for what you want! And, you do want to redeem when you can since it really isn’t a program for hoarding as these points have a short lifespan!
Don’t forget MyMcdonald’s Rewards points expire!
Just like other programs of this nature that have rewards with a value of under $50 there is a points expiry rule. MyMcDonald’s Rewards points will expire 6 months after being earned. Members will be reminded via the app that they have expiring points coming up.
