Back in 2020 Hyatt Hotels announced plans for a major expansion across the Americas which included 20+ new hotels in Canada. Less than two months after that news the COVID-19 Pandemic hit and a lot of those planned hotels were delayed or put to rest. During this time we did see the hotel chain increase their presence by over 50% in Canada to 19 hotels but it wasn’t near the 30+ locations they had originally wanted to have open by the end of 2022. As we approach the end of 2023, Hyatt’s Canadian portfolio remains at 19 locations as they did not open any new locations in 2023.

Hyatt Hotels Canadian expansion plans
Fast forward to November 1 and Hyatt has announced a re-fueled growth plan to more than double their footprint in Canada by 2026. The announcement from Hyatt details plans for 23 more locations to open in the Great White North over the next three years.
These locations include the Andaz Toronto-Yorkville in 2025, which will be opening four years later than originally planned. A new Unbound Collection by Hyatt property in Ontario which will be the second Unbound Collection hotel in Canada after B.C.’s Spirit Ridge. A new Hyatt Place location in Whitehorse will be a welcome addition to the city as it is currently not a very points oriented city when it comes to locations participating in major hotel loyalty programs.
There will also be a major expansion with airport hotel locations as seven Hyatt Place and Hyatt House locations are planned to open during this time period at Canada’s three biggest airports:
- Hyatt Place Montreal – Trudeau International Airport (2025)
- Hyatt Place Toronto International Airport (2025)
- Hyatt House Toronto International Airport (2026)
- Hyatt Place Mississauga – Airport Corporate Centre (2024)
- Hyatt House Mississauga – Airport Corporate Centre (2024)
- Hyatt Place Vancouver International Airport (2026)
- Hyatt House Vancouver International Airport (2026)
Wrapping it up
It is great to see Hyatt’s commitment to expanding their footprint in Canada with the addition of these 23 hotels by 2026. They have come a long way from when they only had four locations less than 10 years ago. Overall, the Hyatt portfolio will still be quite small when you compare them to others like IHG and Marriott but nonetheless all these hotels will be a welcome addition for Canadian World of Hyatt members who will have more choice when it comes to selecting locations to earn and redeem points at domestically.
