Air France KLM Promo Rewards: 25% off flights from four Canadian cities to Europe, Turkey & North Africa

As you may have seen on our social media last week,we were one of a few or perhaps even the only resource to mention that Air France KLM Flying Blue‘s Promo Rewards for the month of December were not actually bookable. They published the offers on December 1 but didn’t load them into the system. The good news is they are now!

I contacted Air France KLM last week about this and was literally in discussions with them this morning to find out why they were not showing up (at 8am MT they were not loaded yet) and my contact said they would escalate it and during these conversations they were loaded and working by 9am MT! For those of you who are new to our site, that’s the RWRDS Canada difference!

Now onto the offer – this month they include 25% off from Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver to Europe, North Africa and Turkey.

The Promo Rewards

December Promo Rewards – Save 25% on the reward Miles usually required for a reward ticket to/from various destinations worldwide. Book by Dec 31, 23 for travel until May 31, 24. Click here for more details  or book direct at on the Air France or KLM websites.

This month’s Canadian cities:

  • Montreal 25% off KLM Economy Class, Premium Economy Class and Business Class to Europe, Turkey or North Africa
  • Ottawa 25% off Air France Premium Economy Class and Business Class to Europe, Turkey or North Africa
  • Toronto 25% off KLM Business Class to Europe, Turkey or North Africa.
  • Vancouver 25% off Air France Economy Class to Europe, Turkey or North Africa.

These are the first Canadian Promo Rewards on offer since they made changes to the required mileage on select flights. (Read all about those changes here).

Most notably in those changes were business class rewards dropping to a starting point of 50,000 miles, down from the previous 55,000 to 70,000 miles. What this means is whenever there are 25% or 50% off Promo Rewards discounts for business class you could potentially redeem as little as 25,000 to 37,500 miles one way! Nothing like getting business class rewards in the realm of other airline program’s economy class reward levels!

Availability

When you do search flights the mileage amounts will vary depending on which destinations you choose in Europe, North Africa or Turkey. As well the dates play a big part in finding those lowest amounts.

Availability between Montreal and Amsterdam at the 37,500 mile level for Business Class is quite good: Here’s a snapshot of some availability:

And here’s Ottawa to Paris in business class:

Toronto to Amsterdam in business class:

Vancouver to Paris in economy class:

Booking and travel dates:

You can book these rewards right through to December 31 on the Air France or KLM websites. You can travel on these offers anytime between now and May 31, 2024

Depending on where and when you are travelling you may have to get creative with your routing due to the limited availability of the offers. You can look at flying one way into one city and then returning from another and try to be flexible with your travel dates.

Transfer from American Express Membership Rewards

If you don’t have the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard your best option is to convert American Express Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue Miles. The transfers are typically near-instant but American Express does state they can take up to 3 days.

Membership Rewards points transfer at a 1 to 0.75 ratio to Flying Blue. Which means you’ll need to transfer as little as 40,000 points for a round trip economy class flight or 100,000 points for round trip business class. To put this in perspective, Amex’s own Fixed Points for travel requires 60,000 points for economy class or 140,000 for business class and a lot more cash for the taxes and fees on those tickets. And with Aeroplan you are looking at 60,000 to 70,000 points for economy class (60,000 to 70,000 Membership Rewards points) or 120,000 – 140,000 or more points for business class. As well with Aeroplan the fees for economy class will be comparable as Aeroplan does not include your first checked bag.

Even with the 1 to 0.75 ratio this represents an absolutely amazing redemption option for your Membership Rewards points. This is especially true for the American Express Cobalt Card if you earned most or all of your points at the 5x level. If you are able to redeem for a round trip economy class flight for 40,000 Membership Rewards points  it represents a very low $8,000 in 5x points spending. There is no way you can even come close to getting a redemption like this for that little amount spending with any other credit card in Canada.

Wrapping it up
