Air Canada launches beta testing of meal pre-ordering

Air Canada has introduced beta testing for their new meal pre-order offering on four routes out of Toronto. This new feature which allows travellers to pre-select a main course option anywhere from 30 days prior to and up to 72 hours of flight departure.

Initial routes

The initial beta test is available on flights departing Toronto to Bogota, Lima, Santiago, and Sao Paulo for those Air Canada customers in Signature Class and Premium Economy. Air Canada tells us the  beta phase will be gradually expanded  with the hopes of having all out-bound flights from Canada included by the end of the year.

How it works:

Within 30 days of departure, customers on eligible flights will receive an email inviting them to pre-order their meal. In this timeframe meal selection may also be accessed through My Booking on aircanada.com or ‘Trips’ in the Air Canada app. Meal selection, and the ability to update a previous order, will be available up to 72 hours before departure. Travellers can also change their previously made selections up to that 72 hour prior to departure window.

Wrapping it up

Air Canada has launched beta testing of their new meal pre-order feature on flights from Toronto to four destinations in South America. The service will be expanded as the year progresses and we should see it available on most if not all out-bound flights from Canada by year end. This is a great new feature for those who have an idea of what they may want to eat on board their flight. It also helps Air Canada plan out their meal service more efficiently and hopefully help cut down on food waste.
