Air France KLM Flying Blue‘s Promo Rewards are out now for the month of October! This month they include 25% off from Montreal and Ottawa to Europe, North Africa and Turkey.

This month’s Canadian cities:
- Montreal 25% off KLM economy and business class to Europe, North Africa, Turkey
- Ottawa 25% off Air France economy*, premium economy and business class to Europe, North Africa, Turkey
* !!! NOTE: Once again there seems to be a discrepancy in the Promo Rewards from Ottawa for Economy Class. The standard base redemption is 15,000 miles for Ottawa to Europe so 25% off should have these rewards start at 11,250 miles (as we have seen in previous Promo Rewards and as we see with Montreal rewards this month) however they have published the offer as 15,000 miles. Such was the case when I searched for availability, the lowest available rewards all started at 15,000 miles.
We saw the same thing last month and AF KLM did tell us there was an issue so it looks like it is happening again this month.
For business class however the pricing does show up at 52,500 miles out of Ottawa (25% off 70,000)
Availability
When you do search flights the mileage amounts will vary depending on which destinations you choose in Europe, North Africa or Turkey. As well the dates play a big part in finding those lowest amounts.
Availability between Montreal and Amsterdam at the 11,250 mile level for Economy Class is quite good: Here’s a snapshot of some availability:

You can book these rewards right through to October 31 on the Air France or KLM websites. You can travel on these offers anytime between now and March 31, 2024
Depending on where and when you are travelling you may have to get creative with your routing due to the limited availability of the offers. You can look at flying one way into one city and then returning from another and try to be flexible with your travel dates.
Transfer from American Express Membership Rewards
If you don’t have the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard your best option is to convert American Express Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue Miles. The transfers are typically near-instant but American Express does state they can take up to 3 days.
Membership Rewards points transfer at a 1 to 0.75 ratio to Flying Blue. Which means you’ll need to transfer as little as 15,000 points for a one way economy class flight or 30,000 points for round trip. To put this in perspective, Amex’s own Fixed Points for travel requires 60,000 points and a lot more cash for the taxes and fees for a round trip economy class ticket. And with Aeroplan you are looking at 60,000 to 70,000 points (60,000 to 70,000 Membership Rewards points) and comparable fees as Aeroplan does not include your first checked bag.
Even with the 1 to 0.75 ratio this represents an absolutely amazing redemption option for your Membership Rewards points. This is especially true for the American Express Cobalt Card if you earned most or all of your points at the 5x level. If you are able to redeem for a round trip economy class flight for 30,000 Membership Rewards points it represents a very low $6,000 in 5x points spending. There is no way you can even come close to getting a redemption like this for that little amount spending with any other credit card in Canada.
Wrapping it up
This month’s Air France KLM Flying Blue’s Promo Rewards feature 25% off all classes for flights out of Montreal and Ottawa. There seems to be pretty good availability out of both cities in all those classes except Ottawa in economy class as that is still pricing without the 25% discount.
