Air Canada’s Aeroplan is taking a page out the hotel loyalty program playbook with this latest enhancement to using points for hotel stays. As of today the program has instituted a fourth night free benefit for Aeroplan credit card holders when they redeem points for hotel stays.
Receive your fourth night free when booking with Aeroplan Points
Aeroplan Credit Cardholders can get a free night’s stay when booking four consecutive nights at a hotel with Aeroplan points. This free night is available for each and every four nights on a stay so if you book an eight night stay you will only need to redeem points for six nights, twelve nights pay for only nine and so on. This offer is available for bookings at over 300,000 hotels worldwide made from today through to December 31, 2024 with the actual stay dates extending beyond 2024. The fourth night free applies to all eligible Aeroplan primary co-brand cardholders and linked secondary cardholders, including U.S. cardholders.
Free night is based on average point price across the stay
Unlike Marriott’s famous fifth night free benefit which is applied to the night that cost the least amount in points, Aeroplan’s fourth night free is based on the average nightly price in points of all four nights. For example, four nights at the InterContinental Hotels Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa in January 2024 runs 474,800 points or an average of 118,700 points per night. In this case you would end up having to only redeem 356,100 points.
But also unlike Marriott’s free night benefit, Aeroplan requires you to have one of their co-brand credit cards to avail of the free night benefit. Marriott’s is available to all program members regardless of them having a co-brand card or not.
The free night can be combined with HotelSavers
Aeroplan’s relatively new HotelSavers option, where you can save up to 30% of the number of points required at over 7,000 hotels worlwide can be stacked with the fourth night free benefit. Hotel bookings are turning out to be quite popular for Aeroplan as they let us know since the launch of HotelSavers in 2022, members have saved on more than 140,000 nights booked with points. And this next initiative of offering the fourth night free for co-brand cardmembers should boost those numbers even more!
