Wealthsimple adds more insurance benefits to their Visa Infinite Card but also doubles the monthly fee!
The relatively new Wealthsimple Visa Infinite Card is already getting its next round of changes. The journey with this card that is still not freely available to everyone reminds me of the early days of Neo and Brim, two other Fintechs who launched credit cards and were constantly adjusting and changing them every few months.
The latest changes to Wealthsimple Visa Infinite Card see them adding the following insurance coverage (These are not available to residents of Quebec):
- Out of province/country emergency medical insurance (14 days / Under 65 / up to $1 Million in coverage)
- Trip cancellation/trip interruption insurance (Up to $1,000 per person (maximum $3,000 per trip)
- Delayed & lost baggage insurance (6 hours for delay / Delayed baggage: Up to $500 for emergency purchases Lost/damaged baggage: Up to $750 Maximum combined coverage: $1,000)
That’s the good news, the bad news is that the monthly fee (annual fee in Quebec) is being doubled as of this October. The fee on the card will be $20 per month or $240 annually in Quebec. Those fees are waived for Premium or higher Wealthsimple Clients or those who direct deposit $4,000 monthly to their Wealthsimple account.
At $240 per year this card now becomes the most expensive premium card in Canada eclipsing the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard at $199.
Everything else on the card including the 2% cash back on all purchases and no foreign transaction fees remain the same.

Personally I received the lulu and Kiehls offers on the American Express Cobalt Card but you may receive it on a different card. The Enterprise offer os also available to holders of Scotiabank American Express Cards who simply need to register for the offer here.
