IHG Hotels & Resorts’ New Hotel Openings in Canada for 2021 – 5 hotels in the works including the Holiday Inn Gatineau – Ottawa

We continue our new hotel openings in Canada series with this latest post where we take a look at what IHG Hotels & Resorts has planned for 2021.

 IHG Hotels & Resorts (nee InterContinental Hotels Group) is one of the largest hotel chains in the world best known for their Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands.
IHG however comprises of 16 brands in total and well over 5,900 hotels
Worldwide. They have a significant presence here in Canada with nearly 200
hotels from coast to coast.

Unlike other hotel chains IHG definitely seemed to stay on track for their hotel openings in 2020 with around a dozen new locations opening their doors. For this year, like many other chains the growth will be lower as brands deal with the major slow down in travel. For 2021 they are planning to open five new locations.

To us the most anticipating opening is the Holiday Inn Gatineau – Ottawa as that is highest end hotel that IHG will be opening up this year.

On another note Canada’s first avid Hotel has been pushed back another
year as we were anticipating a 2021 opening for it but it is no longer
on the list. That hotel, the avid Hotel Vaughan Toronto Southwest saw ground
breaking in October of 2020 and is now slated to open in Spring of 2022. One other hotel that was originally planned for this year but has been
pushed back is the Staybridge Suites Dawson Creek which saw ground break for it in Q4 of 2020.

As with the other hotels chains it is nice to see IHG continuing to expand their
presence here in Canada given the circumstances and these five new locations will provide those extra places to stay at for any home grown travels this year! As we no longer have IHG co-brand credit cards in Canada make sure you utilize a credit card that has strong earn rates on travel purchases for your stays such as the American Express Gold Rewards Card or the HSBC World Elite Mastercard.

Remember to take advantage of all the possible IHG Rewards bonus

points offers if you plan on staying at any of these
new IHG hotels or any other of their properties for that matter! For example, until March 31st you can earn 2,000 bonus IHG Rewards points for every 2 nights you complete with the hotel chain. This bonus is of course would be for existing hotels since it ends prior to the new ones opening but it is an example of what you can expect.  Be sure to follow Rewards Canada as we always let
