WestJet recently announced the return of flights between Calgary and Amsterdam for the winter season and they have some great pricing on the route. The airline was awarded more slots at the Dutch airport so flights will return on November 14 and operate 3x weekly with their Boeing 787 Dreamliner featuring their international business and premium economy class cabins. Hopefully the mess we’ve all heard about at AMS during the summer travel season is fixed by the time these flights start operating again!
The pricing
The pricing varies slightly depending on which days you pick but we found round trip fares as low follow:
- Basic Economy: $599 all in
- Econo: $669 all in
- Premium Economy: $1403 all in (even less with Amex, see below)
- Business Class: $2680 all in (even less with Amex, see below)
The dates we checked for complete pricing were November 21 to 29 and we did see on WestJet’s calendar of fares many dates pricing the same.
Save even more on Premium Economy & Business Class with American Express
If you have the Platinum Card from American Express or the Business Platinum Card from American Express you can actually purchase the Premium Economy and Business Class fares cheaper via American Express Travel. Both cards have the International Airline Program benefit which provide discounts for premium cabin travel on select airlines including WestJet. Here are examples of the Premium Economy and Business Class fares:
WestJet Business Class Pricing $2680.68
WestJet Premium Economy Pricing $1403.68
American Express Travel IAP Business Class Pricing $2380.68
American Express Travel IAP Premium Economy Class Pricing $1341.68
The savings for Premium Economy amount to $62 and are even more significant for Business Class at $300! To be honest with you we haven’t seen a business class fare between Calgary and Europe for under $2,500 since KLM ran some super cheap fares during the height of the pandemic in 2021.
Normally you can also get discounted pricing on Econo fares however as WestJet has published Basic Economy for this route those are the results Amex Travel brings up and it prices the same as WestJet’s own site. You may be able to call Amex Travel to see if they can book the Econo fares with the International Airline Program discount.

Wrapping it up
This could be the perfect flight for anyone who has recently jumped on the WestJet status match and are looking to retain that status through to the end of 2023. Well, that is if you are booking Premium Economy or Business Class. The Econo fare at $669 has a base fare of $72 so that’s not a lot of qualifying earn. And if you are wondering, the flights booked via American Express Travel will count towards your qualifying spend.
