March 29 Update: Further update to Mastercard switching to DragonPass and Marriott’s switch to dynamic pricing will take place later today

Here’s your Rewards Canada Daily update! Your near daily dose of
loyalty program, credit card and travel news, bonuses, deals and more.

Here is a further update to the news we broke yesterday on Mastercard
Canada
switching their lounge access membership from LoungeKey to
DragonPass.

One of our Mastercard sources was able to provide further details as follows:

Mastercard Airport Lounge

  • Mastercard has secured a partnership with lounge network leader Dragon Pass to support our airport lounge benefit. We will be migrating all World and World Elite customers to the Dragon Pass platform in 2022 and Mastercard Airport Experiences will be replaced by Mastercard Travel Pass. This migration will significantly strengthen the value of this benefit with access to over 1,300 lounges globally and dining and spa offers. In addition Canada’s dominant airport lounge player, Plaza Premium, is included in the Dragon Pass network which will significantly expand the domestic lounge footprint to 21 lounges.
  • Pricing: Access to this benefit will continue to be offered on all World and World Elite cards. Pricing of lounge access remains unchanged: each entitlement purchased by a cardholder will be at a rate of $32 USD.
  • Migration Date: Mastercard is making this benefit available at the end of Q1 2022, but the issuing banks have until May 15th, 2022 for migration away from LoungeKey. The current airport lounge benefit provided by Collinson will continue to be supported until the earlier of May 15, 2022 or the date of migration.

This has been added to yesterday’s post as well. Click here to learn more about this switch.

Marriott Bonvoy’s switch to dynamic pricing will
take place late on March 29 so you still have a small window here to
make any last minute bookings! Click here to learn more.

Continuing with Marriott news, the Fairfield Inn & Suites North Bay which we featured in our piece on Marriott’s New Hotel Openings in Canada for 2022
has had its planned opening date pushed back. When we first published
that post in January the hotel was set to open this month but that
didn’t happen and the Marriott website has been updated stating a May
opening however when you check to see when the hotel can be booked there
are no nights available until mid-July.
