January 17 Update: Best Western Rewards Pay with Points expanded, Rewards Canada Clash Standings & Paytm shutting down

Here’s your Rewards Canada Daily update! Your daily dose (or near
daily dose) of loyalty program, credit card and travel news, bonuses,
deals and more. This update is brought to you by the HSBC World Elite Mastercard which

 Catching up on some news that came out earlier this month. If you recall Best Western Rewards introduced
a Pay with Points feature to the program in 2021 that was available only at
select hotels in Canada and the U.S.. On January 5th Best Western
announced an expansion to the Pay with Points feature to most of their
hotels across North America. The feature allows you to redeem 5,000 points
for $25 off your stay and goes up in increments of 1,000 points for an additional $5 off. Click here to learn more about Best Western’s Pay with Points feature. 

Here’s how to book it:

Make sure you check off the Pay with Points button as shown in this
screenshot (It is unchecked here, it will be a dark grey when you do
check it)

Then you’ll be presented with several rate options for the rooms, one of which will be the Pay with Points: 

 

And when you select it, the next page will provide you with a slider where you can choose how many points to redeem:

A third party bill payment app that used to be popular with the
churning crowd is shutting down in Canada. That app is Paytm – they fell
of the radar a few years ago after adding and increasing fees and
making other negative changes. According to their blog the app will be
shutting down on March 14. It looks like that as of last Friday they
basically stopped any new transaction from happening. Current members
will have until that March 14 date to use up any balance they have and
if they have Paytm points to redeem them by that time as well. Click here to learn more.
