Turkish Airlines has brought back another one of their really good award flight sales. You can book trips this month for travel through to the middle of May and receive a 30% discount in the numbers of miles required. Availability and routing do play into account here so it’s not like every award ticket is discounted. You’ll have to search for those discounts!

If you can find availability there are some pretty good offers to be had, and I say that because it really seems hit and miss for Canadian flights. I was able to find some discounts in economy class to places like Istanbul and Athens from Montreal and Vancouver but then couldn’t find discounts on the return. Nor could I find discounts out of Toronto and I could not find one discounted business class fare at all out of Canada. Based on some of the U.S. blogs though if you are willing to take a positioning flight to a Turkish Airlines U.S. gateway city you might have better luck for business class. One Mile at a Time noted there is good availability out of Newark to Istanbul for 31,500 miles in business class.
Here are a couple of examples where I did find the offer out of Canada. Economy Class is pricing at 21,000 miles one way on these routes and that’s 30% off the promotional mileage rate of 30,000 miles one way.
And since we like to use Aeroplan as a benchmark, they wanted 40,000 points + $92 for the same Turkish Airlines flights between Vancouver and Istanbul and 39,300 points +$151 one way from Montreal to Athens (not on Turkish though) As you can see this promotion from Turkish is quite a good one if you can find flights that work for you.
If this deal intrigues you but you’re not sitting on some Turkish Miles&Smiles right now there is a way you can get in on it. If you have Marriott Bonvoy points you can convert them to Turkish at the standard rates of 3
points to 1 mile and when you convert 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points at once you’ll get an
additional 5,000 miles for 25,000 miles in total (or in multiples of 60K). This is where credit cards like the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card come in handy – for promotions just like this one from your not so typical airline programs.
