WestJet Rewards revealed a new limited time promotion today that will allow members to utilize any companion vouchers that are expiring this year for others without the need of the voucher holder travelling.
From October 21 through to November 4, 2021 members can use their round trip companion vouchers to book two other people to fly and you don’t have to fly with them. This is only available for companion vouchers that are set to expire on December 31, 2021. The actual time period to travel is only dictated by the schedule published by WestJet (so you have about a year of travel that’s open)
Eligible vouchers are as follows:
- WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard companion vouchers
- WestJet RBC Mastercard companion vouchers
- WestJet-wide companion vouchers
- Canada-wide companion vouchers
Here’s some quick notes provided to us by WestJet:
- Vouchers expiring in 2022 are not eligible for this promotion; this includes the vouchers issued for the current BOGO offer on the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard
- There is no limit to how many eligible companion vouchers in a guest’s balance can be used to book for travel for other guests
- Travel bookings are determined by the class of companion voucher and eligible destinations
So how do you go about booking flights for others with your voucher if you aren’t travelling with them? Simple, WestJet also provided us with that detail:
- To use the companion voucher, the companion voucher owner must sign into their account and make the booking on behalf of the two other guests. The first guest on the booking must purchase one WestJet-marketed and operated flight in Economy or Premium and the second guest on the same itinerary will only pay the companion voucher fee (as applicable), plus taxes, fees and charges.
There is also a really good step by step instructional page on WestJet’s site which you can access here.
The key detail is selecting No, Somebody else is travelling |
It’s nice to see WestJet provide this option to their members who have vouchers that will expire this year. I know it won’t appease everyone and some people will see their vouchers go unused but for some this may just be the perfect Christmas gift to fly Grandma and Grandpa out to see the Grandkids for the holidays!
