Back in February LCBO made headlines as they announced they were leaving the AIR MILES program after participating in it for 23 years. At the time they mentioned a plan for a future loyalty program. Thoughts were they might start they own program but that doesn’t appear to be the case with today’s news. LCBO will now partner with AIR MILES’ biggest competitor, Air Canada’s Aeroplan! The multi-year partnership will launch later this year and provides one more avenue for Aeroplan members to earn more points for their future travels.
Aeroplan members who shop at LCBO stores across Ontario will earn 1 Aeroplan point for every $4 spent and just like other retail partnerships there will be limited time bonus points offers on select products. On the flipside Aeroplan members will also be able to redeem points for LCBO gift cards via the Aeroplan eStore, starting at just 1,000 Aeroplan points for $10.
To earn even more Aeroplan points and complete at least a double dip on your LCBO purchases you’ll want to make sure you make the purchases with an Aeroplan co-brand credit card.
Since the relaunch of the Aeroplan program last November Air Canada has promised to grow and make the program in all facets including partnerships. For most of 2020 and 2021 the partners that were added were mostly travel related which is expected for the program that went back to its frequent flyer routes but we are seeing hints of its previous coalition program model make a return as well. I don’t think we’ll see Aeroplan go down the coalition rabbit hole like they did in the 90s and 00s as they do appear to be selectively picking their non-travel partnerships. By partnering with well known retailers like Starbucks and LCBO they are providing merchants they know a good proportion of their membership base will use.
Keep checking back as you can be sure Rewards Canada will let you know when this partnership goes live so that you can start earning those extra points on your LCBO purchases.
