Long time followers of Rewards Canada will know our charity partner very well! That partner is Give A Mile who have recently added United MileagePlus as a donation partner. The addition of United as a partner was key as Give A Mile recently received charity status in the U.S. and can operate south of the border with the same mission that have done here in Canada for many years now!
For those of you who are not aware of Give A Mile here’s a quick introduction:
Established in Calgary, Canada in February 2013, Give A Mile is
dedicated to bringing together the terminally ill, or critically sick,
with family members or close friends by crowdfunding airline flights
through micro-donations of travel loyalty miles. We work across Canada.
We are 100% donation model so all miles donated go to flights. We are
100% volunteer team with a Big Hairy Audacious Goal of giving 1 billion
miles to families that need these flights. A federally registered
not-for-profit agency in Canada, Give A Mile is recognized as a charity
by Aeroplan’s Beyond Miles program, and offers tax receipts for money
donations to donors through an agreement with the Place2Give Foundation.
Their primary partner up to this date has been Air Canada Aeroplan which they continue to partner with but now the ability to provide more flights of compassion has grown by leaps and bounds with the addition of United MileagePlus. I know the primary goal of United is for flights of compassion in the U.S. however with United being a partner with Air Canada the miles from both programs can be used vice versa, that is United MileagePlus miles for a flight on Air Canada within Canada or a flight on United with the U.S. utilizing Aeroplan points. It was just a perfect and natural progression and partnership for Give A Miles.
To celebrate the addition of United MileagePlus Give A Mile launched a campaign yesterday with a goal to raise half a million MileagePlus Miles by March 28th:
From March 1-28, please join us in our Miles on a Mission campaign to raise 500,000 United MileagePlus miles. With a donation as little as 1,000 miles, you can help connect terminally ill patients with their loved ones.
The great news is that the campaign hasn’t even been live for 48 hours
and they have already eclipsed the goal of 500,000 MileagePlus Miles!!!
One MileagePlus member alone donated 169,000 miles. How awesome is that! That doesn’t mean others can’t still step in and donate. Give A Mile will continually require to have miles donated to provide these flights of compassion so why don’t we help them reach one million miles by March 28th!
