Air Canada Aeroplan adds Air Dolomiti as a partner – you can now earn and burn points on this little Italian airline

It is surprising to think that in a year where we saw travel be extremely curtailed that frequent flyer program expansion would also be limited. Such is not the case with Air Canada’s Aeroplan as they have added six new airline partners to their roster over the past year. The sixth just being announced today and that airline is Air Dolimiti. The Lufthansa Group owned Italian airline primarily serves major Italian cities and several other European cities from Lufthansa’s major hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. Both of those cities are major connecting points for Air Canada flights so one can easily see where this new partnership with Aeroplan makes sense.

Currently the airline flies Embraer 195 jets seating 120 passengers in Business and Economy Class in 2×2 layout. Business Class is the common type seen on intra-European flights with the seats being the same as those in Economy however Air Dolomiti blocks every other seat in business class so you technically get two seats to yourself.

This partnership is a full earn and burn option for Air Canada Aeroplan members which means you’ll earn points on revenue tickets and also be able to redeem points for award tickets on Air Dolomiti.

  • Members can earn Aeroplan points based on distance flown on all scheduled flights operated by EN.
  • Members can earn Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) and Status Qualifying Segments (SQS), as well as Status Qualifying Dollars (SQD) on flights ticketed by Air Canada.

and on the Aeroplan Flight Rewards side:

  • Air Dolomiti flights will be priced based on Aeroplan’s pricing for partner airlines.
  • Members will be able to book Air Dolomiti flights online at aircanada.com, through the Air Canada mobile app, or via Aeroplan’s Contact Centre.
  • Air Dolomiti flights can be combined with flights operated by Air Canada and our other international airline partners.
  • The partner booking fee will apply for flight rewards which include travel on Air Dolomiti.

It is always exciting news when an frequent flyer program adds a new partner as it gives members those additional option for earning and burning their points. It may not seem like a significant addition right now but once more travel resumes having access to those smaller cities in Italy will be most welcoming for “Canada’s strong Italian community” as Air Canada told us.
