RBC credit card holders can now earn extra Be Well points for shopping at Rexall

CORRECTION: Thanks to long time Rewards Canada reader Harry B. for pointing out that you earn 50 points in total with your RBC card and your Rexall Be Well account. Not the 50 points + 10 points as we first published. Per the email sent out from Rexall you earn 40 points from your RBC card and 10 points from your Be Well card for a total of 50 points per dollar.

Akin to RBC’s partnership with Petro-Canada, RBC credit card holders will now be able to link their credit cards with Rexall’s Be Well program to earn extra points. Once you link your RBC credit card to your Rexall Be Well accounts you’ll earn 50 Be Well points for every $1 spent on that RBC card at Rexall. This is over and above the base earn rate for the Be Well program.

“We’re thrilled to add Rexall to our highly successful loyalty partner program,” said Sean Amato-Gauci, Executive Vice-President, Cards, Payments & Banking, RBC. “Through our proprietary RBC Rewards loyalty program and strategic loyalty partnerships, our clients receive additional ways to instantly save and earn more RBC Rewards points. We’re proud to be partnering with Rexall, a company that shares our common values of supporting the health and wellness of our employees and clients

With Rexall’s Be Well program you earn 10 points per dollar spent at Rexall and then when you reach 25,000 points you can redeem them for $10 off at the till. This means each Be Well point is worth 0.04 cents.  Those 40 Be Well Points per dollar that you earn with your RBC linked card will then equate to 0.16 cents in extra value. In total if you show your Be Well card and pay with an RBC linked card you’ll earn 50 points per dollar or an equivalent return of 0.20 cents. This is on top of any points you earn on your RBC card as this Be Well partnership is over and above whichever reward program you have tied into your RBC card from RBC Rewards to WestJet and all the others in-between.

Personally I will link my WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard to my Be Well account just in case but in all honesty I’ll will keep using my American Express Gold Rewards card for purchases at Rexall. The Gold Rewards Card is the one I always use drug store purchases as it earns 2 Membership Rewards points per dollar. Those points have a value of no less than 1 cent each which means I’d be earning 2 cents per dollar at Rexall. Add in the 10 points per dollar for Be Well and I’m earning 2.004 cents per dollar. If I use my WestJet card and Be Well card my combined earn is 1.70 cents per dollar.

Nonetheless if you don’t have a card with a drug store accelerator (not many do anymore) but do have an RBC card this partnership is worthwhile for that nice little boost in spending. Circling back to the start of this post and our mention of Petro-Canada, don’t forget to link your RBC card with your Petro-Points account as that will give you an automatic discount of 3 cents per litre.
