You may have seen earlier today that I posted a comparison of the new Aeroplan
cards. There were two things that really stood out to me. First the
Amex cards are definitely weaker in the insurance department compared to the TD
and CIBC cards but that tends to be offset by the Amex cards offering better points earning and benefits. So if you are more about the
insurance these charts can help you compare that. Second, I’ve never
really taken a long hard look at Mobile Device Insurance before and
after reading the terms and conditions for them it almost seems like
more of a hassle with depreciation, deductible and the fact there are
exclusions like cosmetic damage that doesn’t affect functionality. Does this mean if you crack your screen where it
doesn’t affect the touch screen or most of your view that they won’t
cover the repair? Seems to me something like Apple Care is a better
option, yes you have to pay for it but you’d have to pay anyways with the insurance thanks to those deductibles and depreciation. And my experience with Apple Care is that there are no questions asked – they repair or replace as needed.
