Back in August we let our readers know that two of IHG’s hotels in the Toronto area would be moving from that family of hotels to the Sonesta Hotels brand. That transition has now happened which means the following two hotels have changed as such:
The InterContinental Toronto Yorkville is now the Yorkville Royal Sonesta Hotel Toronto and the
Staybridge Suites Markham is now the Sonesta ES Suites Toronto.
Here’s some verbiage from Sonesta’s site about the Yorkville location:
Transitioning from InterContinental® Toronto Yorkville
Sonesta is excited to rebrand and assume operation of this Toronto
hotel this fall. Reservations are now available for stays beginning
December 15th, 2020. We are confident you’ll enjoy the same
guest-focused Sonesta experience when you visit our new location.
This
marks Sonesta’s first foray into the Canadian market and for those of you
who may be unfamiliar with the chain they are based out of the U.S. and had the majority of their properties in the eastern part of the U.S. along
with some Latin American and Egyptian locations. However as we noted in
August – the brand scored over 100 hotels from IHG as the owners of
those locations ended their relationship with IHG. This was a major coup
for Sonesta giving them an even larger footprint in the U.S.
(especially out west) and of course into Canada as well.
The hotel chain does have their own loyalty program called Travel Pass and in fact to celebrate the joining of these two and the other 100+ hotels they are offering 2,500 bonus points per stay at any of the new locations until January 31, 2021:
