If the news that was posted to the Skyscraperpage forum yesterday is correct, WestJet has some major international expansion plans for 2024. The information posted on the forum was taken from WestJet’s online direct schedule feature which has been updated with the 2024 route details. Although without an official press release the route info is subject to change – well, it would still be subject to change even if there was a press release.
Nov 15 Update: WestJet has sent out an official press release on all the these flight additions. The only difference we can see from the press release is the Calgary to Rome route being listed as 6x weekly versus daily as seen in their online schedule tool.
The update includes a new route from Calgary to Iceland that we were hopeful for a few weeks ago after WestJet received approval to serve the island nation. It also sees Calgary to Rome and Tokyo moving to daily service and the return of Transatlantic flights from Halifax, St. John’s and Toronto.
Calgary to:
- Barcelona – 4x to 6x weekly
- Dublin – 4x to 5x weekly
- Edinburgh – 4x weekly
- London Heathrow – Daily service
- Paris – 3x to 7x weekly
- Reykjavik – up to 4x weekly
- Rome – 1x to 7x weekly
- Tokyo – 3x to 7x weekly
Halifax to:
- Dublin – 2x to 4x weekly
- Edinburgh – 1x to 3x weekly
- London Gatwick – 4x weekly
St. John’s to:
- London Gatwick – 3x weekly
Toronto to:
- Dublin – 2x to 7x weekly
- Edinburgh – 3x to 7x weekly
Wrapping it up
As mentioned above and as is published on WestJet’s site, this information is subject to change. By all accounts though, this should be a fairly accurate representation of what the airline will offer next year in terms of its intercontinental flying. It’s great to see them bring back Transatlantic flights from the East! And let’s talk about Halifax – the Nova Scotia city must be gleaming with all the routes that are coming back next year! And it is great for travellers out west to see Rome and Tokyo go to daily service out of Calgary not to mention YYC finally getting a direct flight to Iceland!
