Earning and redeeming Miles & More miles

There are only a few options for Canadians to earn Miles & More miles that can be used to redeem for these discounted reward flights:

Organically

The best option is if you are already a Miles & More member who has been collecting miles (via flights, hotels, car rentals etc.) and have enough in your account to take advantage of them.

Converting points to miles

Another option is to convert points from Radisson Rewards with a conversion rate that is terrible, at 10 points to 1 mile.

Buying Miles

There is also a way to buy Miles & More miles so that you are essentially receiving discounted flights (just as you would with any other airline’s buy miles options) To buy Miles & More Miles you actually don’t buy them directly through Miles & More but rather you do so by purchasing a ASMALLWORLD Prestige Membership which awards Miles & More miles as part of their welcome bonus. In fact, until August 15, 2023 they are offering 50,000 extra miles for a total of 300,000 miles with a Prestige Membership.

The cost for the membership is 5,200 EUR which works out to 1.73 EUR Cents each or about C$7,500.  That is a huge outlay but the reward, if you can afford to buy a membership, can be worth double that if not more!

With 300,000 miles you could buy five round trip business class tickets between Calgary and Frankfurt from the offer above and have 25,000 miles left over. I quickly looked at what Eurowings was charging for round trip business class in September and October and it was over C$6,000. Personally I  would not pay $6,000 in any regard but I am a buyer of business class fares when they are lower such as when KLM offers them for around $3,000.

This makes an ASMALLWORLD Membership potentially worth it as each ticket would be around $1,500 plus Miles & More’s hefty fees which can push to price to around $2,500 per ticket. It is definitely something to consider!

And you don’t have to only consider this month’s Mileage Bargains – this is a very quiet month for them. Most times we see offers on Lufthansa, Austrian, LOT and SWISS for business class out of Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver so those 300,000 miles could easily be used for those flights when they return to the Mileage Bargain offers.

Be sure to watch for a separate post next week providing even more detail on this way to potentially score business and first class flights for less. Yes, even the coveted LH First Class that runs 182,000 miles between North America and Europe would be accessible with the 300,000 miles and you don’t have wait to 15 days prior to departure to book like you’ll find with partner programs such as Aeroplan!

Finally, it’s not just the miles you receive with ASMALLWORLD membership – you’ll also receive the top level DragonPass membership which provides unlimited access to over 1,300 airport lounges worldwide, GHA Discovery Titanium status, Jumeirah One Gold status and Sixt Platinum Status.
