The new best cash back card in Canada

With the enhancements going live yesterday, the SimplyCash® Preferred Card from American Express has now been crowned the best cash back card in Canada again! It lost the position for a couple of years, first to the CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite* Card and then the American Express Cobalt® Card but now thanks to its new increased earn rates and 2% base earn rate the SimplyCash Preferred card provides the best cash back rewards in Canada based on our calculations. We have the card earning $530 to $1,630+ in cash back during the first year and after that $150 to $1,230 per year. We would still like to see the card move away from a once per year awarding of the cash back and hope that American Express may implement a more frequent option as all their competitors save for Scotia have done so. Buy Avios for as little as 1.4 cents

British Airways Executive Club has added a new Avios subscription service. Essentially this allows you to buy Avios that you will receive on a monthly basis. You can choose either a monthly plan (min. 3 months) or an annual plan (12 months). The annual plan works out cheaper as you pay the equivalent of 10 months of the monthly plan and the top package option, Adventurer provides the best per Avios purchase price. That option is 1789 GBP per year for 200,000 Avios. That works out to 0.89 pence per Avios or approximately 1.4 cents C$ per Avios. This much better than the buy Avios price of with a 50% bonus! It also matches the price you can buy Avios for subscribing to The Economist. Overall this is a pretty good deal in terms of buying Avios but you do have to be aware it will take the full year to get the 200,000 Avios (Whereby if you buy Avios directly you get all of them right away) and the subscriptions automatically renew so you have to keep that in mind as well to make sure you cancel on time unless you want to continue buying Avios.
