Delta Airlines to resume Halifax – New York La Guardia route

In what appears to be a response to American Airlines restarting this route (read more here), Delta Airlines will also be bringing back their Halifax to New York La Guardia summer seasonal service in 2024. The twice daily service launches on June 7 and will be flown with a Republic Airways E175.

There is reward flight availability with Delta SkyMiles that starts around 33,000 SkyMiles round trip but most days were showing 40,000 SkyMiles or higher. The flight is not showing yet on WestJet or Air France KLM, the latter if they do offer it should cost less miles than Delta.

Hilton Honors will not expire points for those residing in Ontario

This week we learned a little quirk in the Hilton Honors program. Long time RWRDS Canada reader Harry B. reached out in Facebook Group to confirm that some details from Hilton were correct or not. He asked Hilton Honors about point expiration (Hilton points have a 24 month inactivity rule in place) and Hilton told him the following:

I decided to do some digging as I had some orphaned points in Hilton account that expired earlier this year (I let them go as there was no point in transferring or buying points to keep them active). The customer service rep I spoke with at Hilton did some digging and it turns out, it is not a general rule for Canada however their rules specifically state points will never expire for those members who reside in Ontario. Ontario was the first province in Canada to pass legislation about program points expiry (time-stamped expiry, not inactivity however as Hilton has) so it appears Hilton has made an exception for their rule for Ontario only. And that is why Harry who resides in Ontario was told his points won’t expire however mine, as an Alberta resident did have them expire.

To the best of my knowledge Hilton is the only program that has set this in place as most other programs made their rules Canada wide as it was easier than making separate rules for separate provinces. In Hilton’s case they should probably add Quebec to the list since they also have points expiry legislation.

Simply log in to your Amex account or go onto the Amex app to see if these offers have been sent to you and to register for them. You can find this and many more offers in our Guide to American Express Canada ‘Amex Offers’

Personally I received the Article offer on The Platinum Card from American Express but you may receive it on a different card. The MTLaTABLE offer was found posted on RFD. These are also available to holders of Scotiabank American Express Cards who simply need to register for the offer here.
