New airline conversion options to Marriott Bonvoy

Converting points from hotel programs to airline programs is a very common redemption option provided by the majority of hotel loyalty programs. However the opposite is quite rare – that is converting from airline programs to hotels. There are a handful of air to hotel options that have been around for quite a few years now such as Virgin Atlantic Flying Club to Hilton Honors but in general it is a not very commonplace.

However two airlines have joined the ranks of being able to convert their miles into hotels points over the past few weeks. Members of Cathay Pacific Asia Miles and Korean Air SKYPASS can now convert their miles into Marriott Bonvoy points. Both programs convert a rate of 2 miles to 1 Marriott Bonvoy point. That’s a terrible ratio considering the opposite conversion is 3 Marriott Points to 1 Mile (not including the 5,000 mile bonus if you convert 60,000 points). Still this is an additional option that can make sense if you have miles in either program you know you will never use. There is no sense in having orphaned miles so conversion options like this are beneficial in that regards.
