Avion Select, the newest level of Avion Rewards that is open to all Canadians, not just RBC clients, has officially launched. We’ve been covering Avion Select for the better part of two months now as it was soft launched in an ‘Early Access’ mode this past spring and RBC has now made it official with today’s press release.
Here is our past coverage:
- June 8, 2023: Avion Select: RBC is opening up Avion Rewards to all Canadians
- July 7, 2023: Points Earning with Avion Select will launch in September
At the moment Avion Select operates as a cash back rewards online shopping portal (see our June 8 post on how it works) and come September they will be adding the option to earn points. Those points will be able to be redeemed for travel, gift cards, merchandise and more. We outlined the points earning in our July 7 post (link above) but also provided additional details in our This Week in RWRDS newscast from a couple of weeks ago:
In this newscast I revealed that RBC’s media agency reached out to me to let me know that Avion Select Points will be transferable to Avion Premium (ION Cards) and Elite Levels (Avion Cards). This is opposite of what we posted and also counters the actual published terms and conditions that are due to take effect on September 7, 2023. I asked for further clarification and confirmation either way but have not heard back from them yet. As soon as I do receive the details I’ll be sure to pass them along.
August 30 update:
We have received an update from RBC that clarifies points transfers from the new Avion Rewards Select program to the higher Avion Rewards Premium and Elite Levels. As it stands, based on the current terms and conditions set to come into effect on September 7, points transfers between Select and the other levels are not be allowed. However, once RBC does launch the ability to earn and redeem points via Avion Rewards Select this fall they are planning to allow points transfers and thus will also amend those terms and conditions accordingly:
Points capabilities for Select members will be available later in the fall and points transfer capabilities for these members will follow shortly after. Once the transfer capability is available, we will update the Terms and Conditions. Until the points transfer capability is released, Select members can still become Premium or Elite members and continue to leverage their existing points.
