Big news from Mastercard today as they have announced a new global ultra premium card option that is called the “World Legend Mastercard” and the introduction of “The Mastercard Collection.”
This new card will the highest tier offering from Mastercard which currently has the World Elite Mastercard as their most premium brand. However, the World Elite is only a premium tier card not an ultra premium offering like the Visa Infinite Privilege cards that have been in market for quite sometime now. It’s a better late than never for a response from Mastercard!
The Mastercard collection will expand on the brand’s long running Priceless experiences with expanded dining, entertainment, travel and other experiences.
The World Legend Mastercard
The first World Legend Mastercard is set to debut south of the border later this year and to be followed with a broader international roll out.
“Expanding its World portfolio for higher-spending cardholders, Mastercard is launching the World Legend Mastercard – its most prestigious consumer card to date. Designed for individuals who want access to exceptional and exclusive experiences that bring them closer to their passions, World Legend is available to banks globally today and will debut to cardholders in the U.S. in Q3 2025, followed by a broader international rollout.”
Not a lot of details yet but I think we are safe to assume the benefits, experiences etc. will be similar to what is currently seen on Visa Infinite Privilege cards.
So that brings us to the question of who will be the first in Canada to offer a World Legend Mastercard? My bets are on BMO since they are one of the largest Mastercard issuers in Canada but who knows, maybe we’ll see a WestJet RBC World Legend Mastercard first? What do you think? Who do you think will be first? Let us know in the comments below!
Introducing The Mastercard Collection
In addition to the World Legend Mastercard, they will be introducing The Mastercard Collection for World, World Elite and the newly created World Legend Mastercard cards. Some of these benefits have already been available on Canadian issued cards but hopefully those will be expanded upon with the new global initiative from Mastercard.
- With The Mastercard Collection, cardholders and their friends and families can make the most of every moment with elevated, globally connected dining, entertainment and travel benefits:
- Dining: Priority reservations at sought-after restaurants, specially crafted menus and experiences that transform moments into memories.
- Entertainment: Ticket access, including presales, and premium seating for the most in-demand music events through our international partnership with Live Nation, as well as access to tickets for sporting events.
- Travel: Streamlined airport experiences, including access to 190 fast-track security lanes at over 30 airports and to more than 1,350 airport lounges at major international airports across 600 cities and nearly 150 countries, ensuring a smooth and stress-free start to their adventure. Coming soon to select international airports, Mastercard-exclusive dining spaces will also redefine the pre-flight experience by blending comfort, locally inspired flavors, and must-have travel amenities.
- The Mastercard Collection unlocks premium benefits for cardholders and their loved ones—at home and where their travels take them. During a vacation to London, for example, a U.S. cardholder and her family can enjoy streamlined travel, breezing through airport security; snag dinner reservations at an award-winning restaurant; and book front-row seats at Stranger Things: The First Shadow in the West End.
- These exclusively curated experiences and more are available to eligible World portfolio cardholders, complementing issuing banks’ own benefits and rewards programs. Consumers can browse and book experiences via priceless.com/themastercardcollection or their banking app.
Wrapping it up
Mastercard will (finally) be introducing an Ultra Premium card to the global market with the World Legend Mastercard. The card will debut in the U.S. shortly and then be followed with a global roll out so hopefully it isn’t too long before we see one here in Canada. In addition to the new card tier, Mastercard is expanding their experiences offering with The Mastercard Collection which is offered on World, World Elite and the new World Legend Mastercards.
