Deployment of the free Starlink inflight Wi-Fi
WestJet will begin to introduce free Wi-Fi before the end of the year and plans are to have it available on the entire narrowbody fleet by the end of 2025. The airlines 787’s will have the Starlink technology added by the end of 2026
“WestJet will be the largest North American and first commercial Boeing 737 airline to offer inflight connectivity powered by Starlink’s best-in-class technology platform, which includes the world’s largest satellite constellation. Starlink was selected as WestJet’s new inflight technology partner for its ability to deliver enough bandwidth and lowest latency internet for every guest onboard to live-stream videos or online game direct from their devices as if they were at home.”
Free Wi-Fi will be for WestJet Rewards members
Just as Delta Airlines only offers free Wi-Fi to its SkyMiles members, WestJet’s free Wi-Fi option will only be available to WestJet Rewards members. With the program being free and easy to join, travellers simply need to create an account anytime prior to boarding their WestJet flight.
Expanded partnership between WestJet and Telus
The free inflight Wi-Fi provided by Telus and delivered by Starlink is only one part of this new strategic partnership. Although details have not been revealed Westjet has stated “In the coming months, WestJet and TELUS will announce additional, exclusive benefits and perks for WestJet Rewards members and TELUS customers”
