Here’s your RWRDS Canada update! Your near daily dose of loyalty program, credit card and travel news, bonuses, deals and more.

A premier loyalty industry event is coming to Calgary

For the airline, hotel, credit card and loyalty industry employees and execs who may be reading today’s update be sure to consider attending this loyalty event in Calgary later this year!

AI Connects’ (also known as Airline Information) Mega Event, which happens to be one of the longest running loyalty industry conferences is coming back to Canada! Chris and his team at AI have been operating loyalty industry events and conferences for as long as I can remember including past Mega Events that were held in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

The first one I attended was in 2010 in Huntington Beach and I’ve had the pleasure of presenting at and attending quite a few of their events since that time. Now, the 2024 edition of the Mega Event Conference that is geared to airline, hotel, credit card, loyalty executives and employees will be held right here in Calgary on June 18th and 19th.

Mega Event is described as “the place to meet industry professionals looking to discover and share best practice.” Some of topics that will be covered in this year’s edition of the conference:

  • What is AI, and who is using it effectively now?  Can it really change loyalty and ancillary strategies?
  • Big Data is (was?) meant to have revolutionized segmentation and personalization – who is delivering in the real world?
  • What impact will regulators have on ancillary selling practices?  Will they stop the billion dollar industry with legislation?
  • Taking your co-brand program global – what are the lessons from more regulated markets?
  • Are there new ancillary products to add to your existing mix?  Our Lions’ Den product pitching competition will showcase potential new ones
  • Loyalty meets payments – as more tech companies claim to be able to turn points instantly into cash at point of sale, and more programs over points + cash is this a long term trend or just a passing fad?
  • Are Industry Initiatives like NDC and One Order positive for airlines?

PetSmart Treats Rewards will boost balances to match new redemption rate

If you watched our This Week in RWRDS: March 1, 2024 newscast you’ll know I mentioned that I was going to try to find out if the upcoming changes to PetSmart Treats Rewards will include a boost to existing balances to match the new redemption rates. I did contact them about it and have yet to hear back yet but several days after reaching out to them there was an email sent out to all PetSmart Treats Rewards members with the following:

“One time points credit of 25% of your total points will be deposited into your Treats Rewards account on or before 4/30/2024 to bring your balance current with the new Treats Rewards earning and redemption structure. Treats Rewards terms & conditions apply. See petsmart.com/treats-rewards.html or petsmart.ca/treats-rewards.html for details.”

Perfect! We have the answer and it’s a good one as existing points will not be devalued!
