CIBC Air Canada AC Conversion Card being discontinued

Thanks to Christopher for alerting us to this news! The CIBC Air Canada AC conversion™ Visa* Prepaid Card is being discontinued as of August 26, 2024. This is the card that you would load various currencies onto for your travels so that you didn’t have to pay foreign transaction fees when abroad. The card seemed quite popular when it launched but in the last couple of years we noticed less of a marketing push behind it like no more 1% cash back offers that they used to offer and perhaps increased competition from other prepaid cards and No FX Fee credit cards made this card fall out of popularity. Whatever the reason, if you do have the card here is the timeline of the closure of the card and how you will have any funds remaining returned to you:

June 24, 2024

Last day to:

  • Reload funds onto an AC Prepaid Card.
  • Order a replacement for an expired, damaged, lost or stolen AC Prepaid Card. To find out when your AC Prepaid Card expires, check the expiry date printed on the front of your card. Even if your AC Prepaid Card expires, you can still access your funds by ordering a replacement before June 24, 2024 and use it before August 26, 2024, or we will send you the remaining balance as described below.

August 26, 2024

Last day to use your AC Prepaid Card to make purchases, payments, ATM withdrawals, or to process a merchant return or refund. Your AC Prepaid Card will be deactivated at 11:59pm ET on August 26, 2024.

Return of remaining funds

After August 26, 2024, any remaining balance on your AC Prepaid Card will be returned to you. In most cases, we will return your funds to you within a month. We appreciate your patience.

CIBC US Dollar Accounts: If you have a US dollar personal deposit account† at CIBC (single or joint) that is held in your name and is active when we return your funds, and your AC Prepaid Card balance is in US dollars, we will deposit your remaining funds directly into your US dollar personal deposit account in US dollars.

CIBC Canadian Dollar Accounts: Other than for CIBC US Dollar Accounts as described above, if you have a Canadian dollar personal deposit account† at CIBC (single or joint) that is held in your name and is active when CIBC returns your funds, CIBC will deposit your remaining funds directly into that personal deposit account. If the funds are in a foreign currency, they will be converted to Canadian dollars before being credited to your account.

If you do not have an active US or Canadian personal deposit account at CIBC, or if for any reason we are unable to apply the balance to your account (for example, if your account is inactive or dormant), then CIBC will send the funds to you by money order to the mailing address you have on file. If the funds are in a foreign currency, they will be converted to Canadian dollars.

FOR ALL CARDHOLDERS: Please ensure your mailing address is accurate and up to date. You can check your mailing address on the AC Prepaid Card Portal or the AC Prepaid Mobile Application. You can make updates to your address by contacting us at 1 800 482-8347 Opens your phone app. before August 26, 2024.

Two new Amex Offers for Oceania Cruises & Trayvino Wine

A couple of more Amex Offers statement credit promos were added to the program today.

Oceania Cruises

Spend at least $2,000 in qualifying purchases using your registered Card at www.oceaniacruises.com by 22/07/2024 and earn a one-time $400 statement credit. Registration cap applies. Terms apply.

Trayvino Wine Company

Spend at least $200 in qualifying purchases using your registered Card at www.trayvinowines.com by 19/08/24 and earn a one-time $50 statement credit. Registration cap applies. Terms apply.

Simply log in to your Amex account or go onto the Amex app to see if these offers have been sent to you and to register for them.  You can find this and many more offers in our Guide to American Express Canada ‘Amex Offers’

Personally I received the Oceania offer on The Platinum Card from American Express but you may receive it on a different card. This offer is also available to holders of Scotiabank American Express Cardswho simply need to register for the offer here.
