Last week I had the pleasure of attending and presenting at the sold out Travel Marketplace Event here in Calgary. This was a two day conference for travel advisors and suppliers put on by Travel Market Report who are a leading publisher of industry news for travel advisors. It was only the second year for this event in Calgary and with resounding success is set to return in 2026.
My presentation, entitled Harnessing the power of loyalty programs and credit cards for your clients, was well attended being just a couple seats shy of a full house. It covered many different aspects of airline, hotel, car rental and credit card programs and before I knew it my 45 minutes was almost up! So much to my dismay I only touched upon elite status and quickly provided some tips about credit card insurance.
No matter how much I prepare, I have been well known for straying away from my planned presentations at past conferences and the same thing happened here! I promise I will try to stay focused on the task at hand for the next conference! 🙂
Overall the feedback from the advisors seemed really positive and that it was a worthwhile topic for them. For many of them, there was a consensus that they want to be able to provide more loyalty and credit card tips for their clients but felt they may not have the time to properly keep track of or to research everything to do with loyalty and credit cards due to their already hectic schedules.
Naturally that turned on the small 40 watt incandescent light bulb I still have in my head to create a newsletter for them so they can have quick access to pertinent and relevant information and voila, it is done! We now have the Rewards Canada Travel Advisor Briefing – A loyalty and credit card rewards newsletter curated specifically for travel advisors!

Side Note: This marks my first “industry newsletter” in well over 15 years and I am excited for this pivot and expansion for the Rewards Canada brand. It was way back in the late 2000s when I used to have a newsletter published from my global site Frequent Flyer Bonuses for loyalty industry insiders and to be honest with you, I can’t really remember why I stopped sending that out? (I am showing my age here with failing memory!)
