There’s a new partnership in the Canadian loyalty landscape that will go live later this year. RBC and Pattison Food Group have announced the launch of a new loyalty partnership between RBC’s Avion Rewards and Pattison’s More Rewards.
Here’s how RBC and More Rewards describe this new collaboration:
Upon launch of this powerful partnership, Canadians shopping at participating Pattison Food Group locations, including Save-On-Foods, will receive unique and compelling savings on grocery and everyday purchases, value and wide-ranging benefits from both loyalty programs, Avion Rewards and More Rewards.
We recently saw the first inkling of this partnership with Save-On Foods recently being added to the RBC Offers program which provides statement credits, discounts or bonus points for RBC credit cardholders. The grocery retailer’s offer was also extended to Avion Select, which is the tier of Avion Rewards that is open to all Canadians, not just RBC clients.
I was wondering if there was going to be more to this beyond the Save-On foods offers but it was tough to judge seeing there were other groceries offers from out east added to the offers list including Metro.
What will the partnership entail?
As this is quite early notice of the partnership that hasn’t gone live yet we can only go on what RBC and More Rewards have provided in the press release. They mention “unique and compelling savings” which we already see in one form in RBC Offers and Avion Select, but I would assume it will go beyond that once the partnership is live.
They also mention “This partnership will bring customers even more opportunities to earn points in the future.” so perhaps we’ll see additional More Rewards points for using RBC cards at Pattison Food Group grocery stores just as we see with their current partnership with CIBC.
What about CIBC and AIR MILES link ups with Pattison Food Group?
Currently CIBC customers who pay with their CIBC credit card at More Rewards’ grocery stores earn 2x More Rewards points on those purchases. I would assume this partnership is going to be dissolved prior to More Rewards and Avion Rewards officially launching their partnership. I’ll reach out to my contacts to see if I can get more details on this!
Update: Thanks to Adam M. for letting us know in the comments below that the CIBC-More Rewards partnership will be ending on July 31, 2024.
You may recall that AIR MILES had a card linked offer for Save-On foods not too long after they were no longer partnered with any Empire stores (Sobeys, Safeway etc.) which leads me to believe Pattison Food Group may have been testing the waters with various potential partners including AIR MILES but it is now obvious Pattison has moved on to or chosen RBC and Avion Rewards as the way to go.
Wrapping it up
Like other loyalty partnership announcements of late, this announcement is providing early notice of the link up between RBC Avion Rewards and More Rewards. Almost no details have been revealed as the actual partnership won’t go live for members of both programs until later in the year.
