Qatar Airways launching Toronto to Doha flights

Qatar Airways is expanding their presence in Canada with new flights between Toronto and Doha that will launch on December 11, 2024. This will be the second city in Canada the airline serves after Montreal and marks full fledged Toronto service after a brief stint of flying out of YYZ in 2020.

The new route will operate 3x weekly with a Boeing 777-300ER which features 42 Qsuites business class seats and 312 economy class seats.

Earning Avios on these flights

Privilege Club members flying on on Qatar Airways flights earn Avios based on the distance flown and fare class paid. You can also choose to credit the flights to any oneworld airline, in particular for Canadians those are British Airways Executive Club and Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.

When paying for your Qatar Airways flights you’ll want to use a card that has a travel accelerator with points that can be converted to Avios. The best bets are the American Express Gold Rewards Card and the The Platinum Card from American Express  as they both earn 2 points per dollar spent on travel which equates to 2 Avios per dollar spent.

Redeeming Avios on these flights

Qatar Airways Privilege Club members can redeem Avios for these flights either in full or partial with the program’s Cash+Avios redemption option. Economy class starts at 35,000 Avios one way between Toronto and Doha while the Qsuite business class is at that great 70,000 Avios level!

You can also choose to redeem from the other Avios programs like British Airways Executive Club or oneworld airlines such as Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan and American AAdvantage.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club + Canadian Credit Cards

Qatar Airways Privilege Club does not have their own direct co-brand credit card in Canada. However, the key word is direct – as Qatar Airways Privilege Club is part of the Avios ecosystem which means you can earn Avios with any of the cards that have British Airways Executive Club as an option. You can then either redeem directly from BA for the Qatar flights or transfer the Avios from Executive Club to Qatar Airways Privilege Club.

These are the primary consumer cards you can utilized to be able to earn and redeem for Qatar Airways Privilege Club

Wrapping it up

Qatar Airways is adding three times weekly flights between Toronto and Doha that will launch December 2024. This is a great addition for Canadian travellers and especially so for the Canadian points & miles community as the airline is part of the Avios ecosystem which has many credit cards in Canada where you can earn your fair share to redeem for those Qsuites!
