Sometime ago we provided details of an upcoming partnership between Petro-Canada’s Petro-Points and Canadian Tire’s Triangle Rewards. That partnership is officially live and it provides members with the opportunity for reciprocal points and money earning, joint points and money earning as well as points conversions.
Earning Petro-Points and CT Money
The new partnership allows Petro-Points members to now earn points at Canadian Tire Gas+ locations and vice-versa for Triangle members who can now earn CT Money at Petro-Canada locations across Canada. This is strictly for those who only have one or the other program account or choose not to link their accounts if they do have membership in both. If you are member of both you will want to link your accounts.
Canadians who are members of both program will want to link their Petro-Points and Triangle Rewards accounts as they will earn in both programs simultaneously on the same purchase at Petro-Canada or Gas+ locations. On top of this double dip opportunity linked members will earn 20% more Petro-Points on the same transaction (Similar to what they do with RBC, HBC etc.).
Here are the earn rates for the partnership:
- Get up to 3¢ per litre in CT Money on fuel with Triangle Rewards at Petro-Canada and Gas+ when you pay with cash or debit
- Get 5¢ per litre in CT Money on fuel at Petro-Canada and Gas+ when you pay with a Triangle credit card
- Get 10 points per litre in Petro-Points on fuel, and every dollar spent on car wash or in-store purchases12. Plus, get 20% more on the same transaction when you link your accounts.
Points redemption
The partnership is primarily an earning one however Petro-Points members can redeem their points for purchases at Canadian Tire’s Gas+ and Essence+ locations. There is no option as of yet to redeem CT Money at Petro-Canada locations. There is also the points conversion option covered in the next section.
Points conversion
The partnership also allows for Petro-Points members to convert their points to Triangle Rewards CT Money. The conversion rate is 1,000 Petro-Points to $1 CT Money. This means the points retain the same minimum redemption value found in the Petro-Points program!
That’s a good deal although my preference is still to redeem the points for car washes when they offer buy 5 get 1 or 2 free washes as that provides a lot more value per point. But if you don’t use Petro’s car washes it is good to know you have this option to convert the points to CT Money at a fair value!

Tip: I received an error message stating they couldn’t link my accounts when in fact they were linked. I logged out of both accounts after linking and tried linking again where it stated my accounts were already linked.
