Metro and Food Basics stores in Ontario to move to Moi Rewards from AIR MILES

Another day another shake up in the world of loyalty rewards in Canada. METRO Inc. has announced they will be leaving the AIR MILES program later this year in favour of their in-house program Moi Rewards. Launched in Quebec and New Brunswick in 2023, Moi Rewards is the revamped version of the retailer’s Metro&Moi program.

There are not a lot of details as of yet but we do know that Metro and Food Basics stores in Ontario will begin to offer Moi Rewards at some point later this year.

“We are excited to expand the Moi Rewards program to the Ontario market for our Metro and Food Basics customers. Moi Rewards will be simple to use, personalized, and it will provide customers with great savings and choices in line with their personal tastes.”, said Alain Tadros, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer and Digital Strategy.

Metro is (was) AIR MILES last full fledged grocery partner after the program lost Empire Group (Sobeys, Safeway etc.) nearly 2 years ago. Once Metro departs AIR MILES later this year there will no longer be any grocery partners in the program, which when we look back, played a huge role in the program’s success over the past 30 years. AIR MILES itself is evolving with these changes and have added other grocery opportunities that for the most part are not retailer limited in their credit card accelerators (including wholesale clubs now like Costco) and AIR MILES receipts.

Stay tuned for more news later on in the year as more details are yet to come about Metro moving its Ontario stores to its proprietary program.
