Points earning with MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott Bonvoy members will  earn 10 points per US$ spent at all of the locations listed above. Points earning is limited to bookings made via Marriott only. Members will also earn 1 elite night credit per night stayed at MGM Collection properties.

If you have Marriott Elite status you will also earn elite bonus points: Silver will receive a 10% bonus, Gold 25%, Platinum 50% and it’s 75% for Titanium and Ambassador elite members.

If you book direct with MGM (which in many cases tends to be the cheapest option) those stays will not earn Marriott Bonvoy points or elite status credit.

Benefits for Marriott Bonvoy Elite Members for stays at MGM Collection Hotels

In addition to the tier bonus points listed above for Marriott Elites, the following benefits will apply for stays at these locations:

Silver: No additional benefits

Gold: 500 bonus points welcome gift per stay

Platinum & Titanium: 1,000 bonus points welcome gift per stay or $15 food & beverage credit per night, Enhanced Room Upgrade (Based on availability), Priority Check-in Line and Complimentary Late Checkout of 2pm (Based on availability)

Ambassador: 1,000 bonus points welcome gift per stay or $15 food & beverage credit per night, Enhanced Room Upgrade (Based on availability), Priority Check-in Line and Complimentary Late Checkout of 4pm (Based on availability), waived resort fee, Complimentary 1pm Early Check-in* (Based on availability), One Suite Upgrade per Year in Las Vegas* (Based on availability, Up to 3 Nights, Nightly Upgrade Awards not required), Complimentary Self-Parking During Stay* (Based on availability) and several other benefits including retail discounts*, VIP line access at select night clubs* and so forth.

All of the benefits with an asterisk * are initially being offered only as limited time benefits:

“These benefits are only available during the promotional period commencing at the participation of the MGM Collection Hotel and ending December 31, 2024”

Status Match from MGM Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy

Unlike the previous partnership between Hyatt and MGM there is no elite tier matching from Marriott’s side to MGM. However, MGM Rewards elite members will have their status matched as follows:

  • MGM Rewards Gold >> Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite
  • MGM Rewards Platinum* >> Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite
  • MGM Rewards NOIR* >> Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite
*Initial tier level status match and benefits terms valid through December 31, 2024.

Points transfers

When the partnership officially launches there will be an option transfer points in either direction between Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Rewards. The conversion rates is 10 Marriott Bonvoy Points to 8 MGM Rewards points or 10 MGM Rewards points to 8 Marriott Bonvoy points.  Transfers are subject to a minimum 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per transaction and an annual maximum of 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. (And the same for MGM to Marriott)

Even though it is not a 1:1 conversion, as pointed out by nevyn1234 on Red Flag Deals this conversion can actually present an OK value for American Express Membership Rewards points or if you are someone who may have a small amount of Marriott Bonvoy points (or more points than you know what to do with them!)

“… an MGM rewards point can be used against MGM hotel, dining, or resort spend, or converted to free play, with a value of a US cent per point.

That means that a normal Amex-Marriott transfer then a transfer to MGM would be a decent value at current exchange rates.

10k amex points becomes 12k Marriott, which becomes 9600 MGM. So $100 CDN in cash redemption value becomes a USD 96 one, which is about $130 CDN at current exchange rate.

And if they keep doing the transfer bonuses in the fall from amex-marriott, that would be 10k->15k->12k = 120USD, or about 162 CDN…”

Based on the numbers above you are looking at 1.3 to 1.62 cents per Membership Rewards point which is a 6.5% to 8.1% return on the Cobalt Card’s 5x points!
