Earning & redeeming points & miles on these flights
Travellers who fly on these flights can choose to credit them to American’s own AAdvantage program or to American’s oneworld and other partner airlines. Out of them all the three programs of choice for Canadians are American AAdvantage, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan or British Airways Club.
Redemption wise all of these flights are already bookable via American Airlines using AAdvantage Miles or other oneworld currencies.
If you don’t have any AAdvantage miles you can choose to move RBC Avion Rewards points over to American AAdvantage although the conversion ratio at 10 to 7 is less ideal than RBC’s other airline partners which are 1 to 1. If you do have your eye on one of these flights as an award flight it is best to compare how many AAdvantage Miles are required vs. how many Avios are required via British Airways and then transfer your Avion points to the airline program that has the better offer.
American Airlines flights are also bookable with AIR MILES which is another good option if you don’t have AAdvantage miles and there’s no AAdvantage Saver awards being passed on from American Airlines to oneworld partner programs:
You could also go the route of a proprietary credit card reward program to redeem points for flights you book directly with JetBlue and charge to your credit card. Most cards offer this option with American Express Membership Rewards and Scotiabank Scene+ being some of the top options to utilize for this method.
