The next step in AIR MILES high anticipated transfer option between Cash Miles and Dream Miles is here. AIR MILES Gold and Onyx collector now have the ability to freely move miles between Cash Miles and Dreams accounts. First announced in 2023, the transfer option has now gone through about 6 months of internal testing and beta testing by select members so it should (hopefully) work like a charm now!
Transfers open to AIR MILES Gold & Onyx members
At this point the Cash Miles <> Dreams Miles option is only open to AIR MILES Gold and Onyx Collectors. For the time being base members do not have the option to transfer between accounts.
For AIR MILES Gold collectors the program has capped the amount of miles that can be transferred between Cash Miles and Dream Miles account at 1,000 miles per year.
For AIR MILES Onyx collectors there is no cap which means they can move an unlimited amount of miles.
Earning Gold Elite status in the AIR MILES program is quite easy, you simply need to earn 500 miles in a calendar year or you can receive automatic Gold Elite status in the program with the no fee BMO AIR MILES®† MasterCard®*
To achieve Onyx Elite status in the AIR MILES program, you simply need to earn 5,000 miles in a calendar year or you can receive automatic Onyx Elite status with the BMO AIR MILES®† World Elite®* MasterCard®*
How to transfer miles from Cash Miles to Dream Miles & vice versa
Once you log in to your AIR MILES account you’ll see the option to “Transfer Miles” on your dashboard right below your account balances and earning preference:
When you click on the Transfer Miles link it will take you to the transfer miles page:
To initiate and complete a transfer simply click on which direction you want to move miles Cash to Dream or Dream to Cash (you’ll see the above Dream to Cash is highlighted as that was selected), input the amount of miles you would like to transfer and click the transfer button. That’s all there is to it.
You’ll see in the example above the Dream to Cash option shows 1,000 Dream Miles available to transfer. My account actually has more Dream Miles than that but since I am only a Gold collector I have the annual 1,000 mile transfer limit.
A word of caution!
Once you select which type transfer you want to complete, input the amount of miles you want to transfer and click the transfer button – it’s done. There is no pop up or additional question to have you confirm you actually want to complete the transfer and to warn members (namely Gold collectors) that there’s no going back (Learn from my mistake!). So take this as a word of caution just in case you are wanting to test this feature out and do hit that transfer button! I’m actually a little surprised that AIR MILES does not have that one additional step to have collectors confirm the transfer.
Wrapping it up
It’s great to see the Dream Miles <> Cash Miles transfer option being implemented full time for AIR MILES elite collectors. Now we just have to wait to see if and when AIR MILES will open it up to all collectors. I would also think that since this update is only happening now and with it only being available to Gold and Onyx members, it does appear that having one flat out AIR MILES currency may not happen in 2024 (phase 2 of the process as detailed last October) .
