Air Canada has sent out notice to Aeroplan elite members about some upcoming changes to the expiry policy of eUpgrade credits.
The changes will be effective as of July 1, 2024 and are as follows:
- Simplified Expiry: eUpgrade credits earned as part of your status benefits will be valid for 12 months from the date they are issued.
- Improved Aeroplan Premium credit card benefit: Primary Aeroplan Premium credit cardholders will enjoy an additional 12 months of validity for all eUpgrades earned as part of their status benefits for a total of 24 months, and there will no longer be a cap at 50 credits. maximum. This will replace the current eUpgrade rollover benefit.
- One-time rollover: As part of this change, unused eUpgrade credits for Premium credit card holders earned through June 30, 2024, will be rolled over in 2025 (up to 50 credits total). This one‑time rollover will be completed by March 31, 2025, and those credits will be valid until January 15, 2026. As a reminder, Members will have to be a Premium credit cardholder in good standing for these added benefits to be applied.
The simplified expiry for non-credit card holders provides both good and bad news. The good is that some credits will last longer now based on when they are issued while for others who specifically waited to assign their elite status benefits to prolong the duration of those credits to upwards of 18 months. With the new roling 12 month rule it makes the policy much less confusing than before.
And for premium Aeroplan co-brand credit cards they have excellent news in this update. Gone is the cap of rolling over a maximum of 50 credits, but rather the updated benefit will simply provide a 24 month life span of all eUpgrade credits that are earned. This benefit is available for existing and any new holders of the following cards:
- American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card
- American Express® Aeroplan®* Business Reserve Card
- CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card
- TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card
